The 2024 National Club Chess Championship concluded with a commanding performance by Club Stonewall, who clinched the title with a perfect score of 18/18. Coming into the event as the clear favorites, Stonewall lived up to their reputation as the strongest club in the country, a team packed with national champions and titled players.

The lineup featured some of the Maldives’ finest: FM Muhammed Shuaau, the reigning national champion; FM Ahmed Ashraf; CM Mohamed Hassan; CM Abdul Rahman Ali, the club’s founder and leader; and WCM Nihaya Ahmed, the current women’s national champion. Their collective strength and experience proved unbeatable throughout the tournament.

Castle Chess Club & Academy secured second place, while Royal Chess Club finished third. Before the event, many expected Castle to be the only team capable of challenging Stonewall, but even they were convincingly outplayed in their head-to-head match.

In that encounter, Hussain Vishau Mohamed scored Castle’s only victory, defeating WCM Nihaya Ahmed, while FM Muhammed Shuaau overcame Mujahid Bin Yazeed, FM Ahmed Ashraf beat Noor Farooq, and CM Mohamed Hassan triumphed over Ahmed Yameen, sealing a decisive team win for Stonewall.
