National Chess Championship 2025 - The National Chess Championship concluded with dominant and dramatic finishes in both categories. Muhammed Shuaau claimed his sixth national title with a flawless 9/9 score, while Nihaya Ahmed fought back from an early setback to secure her ninth women’s crown, edging out Zoya Hassan Saeed on direct encounter tie-breaks in a thrilling battle for first place.
Interoffice2025 - The Maldives Chess Association is facing its most serious credibility crisis in years. The 2025 Inter-Office Chess Championship — still struggling to start after multiple last-minute postponements — has exposed deep mismanagement, confused rule-making, and an alarming lack of professionalism. These failures come on top of the widely documented 2024 eligibility scandal involving an ineligible team from M.X. Sign Pvt Ltd, whose improper reinstatement after Round 1 shook the entire tournament’s integrity. With two consecutive years of administrative breakdowns, players across the country say MCA’s leadership has lost the community’s trust and that change is urgently needed to protect the future of Maldivian chess.
Club Chess Championship 2025 - Castle Chess Club & Academy pulls off a stunning upset in the 2025 Maldives National Club Chess Championship, defeating the favorites Stone Wall Chess Club in a tense head-to-head clash. Despite Stone Wall’s dominance in the 2024 championship, Castle’s team delivered decisive victories and memorable moments across 3 boards to claim the national title. The prize-giving ceremony, however, was underwhelming, and prize money has yet to be paid to the rightful winners.
Club Chess Championship 2025 Kicks Off - The Maldives Club Chess Championship 2025 is finally underway after weeks of delays and confusion. Club Stone Wall enters as the clear favorite, while Castle Chess Club and Club Double Eight battle for the remaining podium spots. Despite excitement on the board, poor organization including last-minute schedule changes and questionable arbiter conduct has sparked frustration among players.
Club Stonewall wins National Club Chess Championship 2024 - Club Stonewall stormed to victory at the 2024 National Club Chess Championship, scoring a perfect 18/18 to claim the title. Led by CM Abdul Rahman Ali and featuring both national champions FM Muhammed Shuaau and WCM Nihaya Ahmed, the team dominated every round to reaffirm their position as the strongest chess club in the Maldives.
